Luminous Audio Technology Allegro $79.00/meter* (A+). PH. 804-741-5826. This my friend is the value of the survey. With Tiffany RCA terminations, the luminous boasts a 100% foil shield, and foam Teflon dielectric. The metal conductor is a 6-9’s solid core conductor, which is not a whole lot different than what is used with any number of links. What’s different are the sonics, definitely. In the upper rank without concern for price, and an audio cable value of proportions that I have not seen in a long, long time. It’s so nice to tell you, dear readers, that you cannot loose by buying this digital link, and that you will not have to mortgage your house to swing the deal. For reasons unknown, this link is extremely directional. Which is not bad if you know which way is which. IF you look carefully, you will notice some faint writing on the jacketing; run the cable in the opposite direction of the writing. (Luminous now provides a clear directionality arrow on it’s heat shrink boot). A few words on the sound. It does all the things that are good at the extremes in terms of slam, bam, and air. But, what got me about the sound of my system after inserting the luminous was the way it molding an image; it was 3-D, View master, stick your finger out and touch it style! I could hear around the images on the stage. Vocals not only had body, but also had a real acoustic space behind them with the appropriate discs. True story: I didn’t know what this cable cost while auditioning it. A dealer called up from Michigan to query me about what was hot in digital links. I told him how nuts I was about the Luminous, and he asked me how much it cost. I didn’t know, but from how it looked and sounded, I guessed at least $250, probably more. When I finally got around to looking up the price, I thought that the brochure had a misprint at $79. Nay, Nay. That is the price, and it’s a wonderful value. (I’m sending my TG Audio digital chargers back to TG to have Luminous Cables installed for pig-tales. I’ll report on the mod asap).
