We described this small passive unit as a “volume control in a box,” and were amazed when it kicked the butt of a few very expensive preamplifiers. Passives aren’t for everyone, but if you’re one of those people who are going “DAC direct” you might want to spend a few hundred bucks with Luminous Audio Technology to get clean, clear sound—and all without a power cord.

“Did you ever hear one back in the day?” Tim Stinson of Luminous Audio Technology asked me. He was referring to his Arion phono preamplifier, the original version which created a lot of buzz when it was released. Unfortunately, I had not. I’ve heard of the Luminous Audio Technology Arion in the past, but here’s a hint about how much I know—at first I assumed it was a preamplifier and not a phono preamplifier.

Hello Tim, Happy New Year to you !! I purchased the Axiom II with Walker Mods that you graciously advised me on... It arrived yesterday, no sense in reiterating all the comments from the reviews I  have read about the pre-amp ... all I will say is that my search for a pre-amp is DONE  !!! I intend to revamp my living room stereo this year, once I find the power amp I will be ordering a new compatible Axiom II  from you. With all cables by Luminous Audio, plus their Arion NA phonostage, it helped to achieve outstanding results from VPI's Prime turntable ($4250) with Van den Hul DDT2 cartridge ($1300).

The story of this room was great sound. Despite the stated “Value Room” moniker dubbed by À La Carte Productions, and their exhibit room comprising of a system only totally $9,781 USD, I never felt like anything I was hearing was compromised at any point.
